Radiation-generating equipment “RGE”, poses potential risks to human health and the environment due to the ionizing radiation it produces. The regulatory control over RGE is overseen by the AERB, AERB establishes and enforces regulations and guidelines to ensure the protection of workers, the public, and the environment from the potential hazards associated with the use of radiation.

Manufacturers, suppliers, and end-users of X-ray consumer products, Diagnostic X-ray machines, Industrial Radiography machines, and various other RGEs are required to comply with the regulations set forth by the AERB to ensure the safe and responsible use of such equipment.

In the exercise of powers conferred under Section 16 of the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 read in conjunction with Rule (3) of the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004 End users, Suppliers, and Manufacturers of Radiation-generating equipment mandatorily need to obtain a license from the AERB.
